Motorcycle training courses

New Rider CourseNew Rider Courses

Taken at 16 years of age for 50cc mopeds, age 17 upwards for 125cc motorcycles with gears or automatic scoters
A must if you have never ridden before, this will give you the confidence you need to safely understand and ride your machine before attempting CBT. This is a 90 minute One to One lesson with a qualified instructor.

Compulsory Basic TrainingCBT

Compulsory Basic Training, taken at 16 years of age for mopeds (50cc), 17 years of age for 125cc motorcycles with gears or auto. Maximum power allowed 11kW (14.6Bhp)
Certificate lasts for two years, must display L-Plates front and back, carry NO passengers and NOT able to ride on motorways.
This is taken by everyone before being able to ride on a public road or do further training on bigger machines.

Motorcycle Theory Test Motorcycle Theory Test

Taken at 17 upwards for all motorcycles with gears or auto.
Must be taken before any kind of full licence or test course can be booked.

 

A1 Licence A1 Motorcycle Licence

Taken at age 17 upwards for 125 cc motorcycles with gears or auto. Maximum power allowed 11kW (14.6Bhp)
Must be taken to ride a 125cc machine without L-Plates and carry passengers.

 

A2 Licence A2 Motorcycle Licence

Taken at age 19 upwards for 35kW machines (47Bhp) motorcycles with gears or auto.
maximum power to weight ratio also applies of 0.2kwh per kg.

 

A Licence (Direct Access) A Motorcycle Licence

Taken at age 24 upwards for any size of motorcycles with gears or auto.
An "upgrade" can be taken at 21 to ride category A machines providing you have passed A2 at 19.

ERS (Advanced) Enhanced Rider Scheme

Enhanced Rider Scheme for full licence holders that are looking to start some advanced training to improve skills and possibly gain up to 20% discount on their insurance.
