Instructor Training
Motorcycle Instructor Training
Here at Advanced Riding Techniques, we pride ourselves on quality of service to both our customers and our staff; we strive to achieve industry led status in the field of all motorcycle tuition.
For this reason, we do not run “instructor training courses”. Our instructor training is done over a period to suit both your schedule and individual needs.
Be very wary of any companies or training schools that want to charge you money up front to "train" you as an instructor, the first question to ask is "will there be a job available at the end of the course".
To be eligible to begin training as a motorcycle instructor you will need to have held a full motorcycle licence for at least 3 years with no convictions and be a minimum of 21 years of age, to ensure that we are training only the best instructors we would require you to have held a full licence for at least 5 years and ridden at least 50,000 miles on a motorcycle through at least two winters.
If you require any further information you must first send us your C.V detailing both your career and your motorcycling experience along with a brief covering letter of why you would like to become a motorcycle instructor for ART.
Our intention is not to charge for our training but instead you are expected to show a level of commitment and dedication and as such all training days are “non paid”. Our fee for training is £1000, however, this fee will be waived and on the conditions that when you qualify with the Company as an instructor you are required to work a minimum of 10 days within twelve months from the date of qualification (card issue). If you do not meet these conditions or you choose not to work at ART then the £1000 training fee will be payable in full by you. We will pay for all fuel costs. Any equipment hire will be negotiated on an individual basis.
Training generally takes on average 8 to 14 days (CBT's), working under the close supervision of our qualified DSA instructors and meeting members of the public who are undertaking motorcycle tuition with us. During this time, you will get to see what goes on in the day to day running of a professional motorcycle training school.
Once you have achieved a satisfactory level of instructional ability, you will gain a Driving Standards Agency CBT card. This will allow you to teach CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) for the company. (As a “down-trained” instructor, you have to be supervised at least four times per annum)
More importantly, we can then start to pay you for your time when you are teaching CBT's . You will still be under the supervision of senior ART staff where you will gain further experience before attending a two-day assesment course at the National Driving Test Centre at Cardington (any over night expenses to be payable by you, the assesment itself is non chargeable)
It is important to stress that Cardington is not a training course, it is a supervisory course to assess your skills as a CBT Instructor, if successful you will be issued with CBT1 card meaning you are on your way to becoming a M/C Instructor and can teach all aspects of 125cc machines. Upon completing further in house training you can go back to Cardington to complete the Direct Access Scheme assessment, if successful you are then able to supervise learners on 500cc machines on behalf of the company (D.A.S.). After this, there is still the R.P.M.T before becoming a “complete” instructor, which we would always encourage you to do.
