Direct Access Scheme (DAS)

D.A.S

Kawasaki ER6N This is the quick way to a full motorcycle licence which will allow you to ride a machine of any size and power. You must be over 21 years old, have already passed CBT, the D.S.A. theory test for motorcycles and you must take both Modules 1 & 2 of your test on a motorcycle that produces at least 46.6bhp or 35kw. (usually a motorcycle of around 500cc or over, ART uses Kawasaki ER650's & ER500's). Remember that if you want to practice for your test on this size bike, you can only do so if accompanied by a professionally qualified D.S.A. approved motorcycle instructor, not just your mate with a full licence!

All of our on road training is a maximum of 2:1, Other schools may offer 4:1 on the first couple of days of the course, which may be cheaper, but will drastically reduce the quality & safety of the tuition.

The first stage is to pass the off road manoeuvres (Module 1) this will be carried out at a M.P.T.C (Multi Purpose Test Centre) once this has been passed you are then able to take the On road part (Module 2) when you have completed both parts you have access to any size Motorcycle.

Please note that training course lengths are determined by the individual's level of skill and competence. The number of days spent on training is advised by our instructors after an assessment of your riding skills. This assessment can be carried out when the CBT road ride (Module E) is undertaken, or if you can already ride and have already passed your motorcycle theory test you can ring us to arrange a free assessment .
When you have passed the D.A.S. you can ride any machine of any cc and unlimited capacity.

If you are a complete beginner and have never ridden before and it is a full licence you want, we would suggest the following:

  1. 2 Hour New Rider Course.
  2. CBT, once we have seen you ride on a public road we can then recommend exactly how much training you require and also whether or not you could take both Module 1 and 2 on the same day.
  3. Motorcycle Theory Test (this can be done anytime before the rest of the training)
  4. 1 or 2 days on 125cc depending on experience and ability
  5. 3 to 6 days on Direct Access bike depending on ability and experience before going to test (if over 21).

Some examples of how many hours (days) training that will be required to reach a Direct Access test standard:
Very experienced, 21 - 28 Hours (3 - 4 Days)
Some experience, 35 - 42 Hours (5 - 6 Days)
Complete novice, 42 - 70 Hours (6 - 10 Days)
