125cc Motorcycle Training
125cc Motorcycle Test
A 125cc Motorcycle can be ridden on L-Plates for up to two years on a CBT certificate without taking a full licence test as long as you are 17 years of age. This is also ideal for novice & nervous new riders who wish to build their confidence before going on to take a full test course.
You must be over 17 years old, have already passed compulsory basic training, the D.S.A.motorcycle theory test and then must take both Modules 1 & 2 of your practical test on a motorcycle that qualifies for either A1 or A2 entitlement. You must then pass the off road manoeuvres (Module 1) this will be carried out at a M.P.T.C (Multi Purpose Test Centre), once this has been passed you are then able to take the on road part (Module 2) this will then give you the A1 or A2 Motorcycle Licence.
We can arrange road rider courses to top up your skills if you feel it necessary. All of our on road training is a maximum of 2:1, other schools may offer 4:1 which may cheaper, but will drastically reduce the quality & safety of the tuition.
If you are a complete beginner and have never ridden before and it is a full licence you want, we would suggest the following:
- 2 Hour New Rider Course.
- CBT, once we have seen you ride on a public road we can then recommend exactly how much training you require and also whether or not you could take both Module 1 and 2 on the same day.
- Motorcycle Theory Test (this can be done anytime before the rest of the training)
- 3 to 5 days on 125cc depending on ability and experience before going to test.
A2 Practical Motorcycle Test
(standard motorcycle licence)
This is taken on a 120cc - 125cc motorcycle of not more than 14.6bhp (11kw) and can reach a minimum speed of 100kph (62mph). Once you have passed this test you are able to ride any motorcycle of any size or capacity (cc) but it has to be restricted to 33bhp.
This restriction automatically upgrades after two years, after which you can ride a motorcycle of any capacity or bhp with no further testing. You must have already passed the D.S.A theory test for motorcycles.
A1 Practical Motorcycle Test
(lightweight motorcycle licence)
This is taken on a 70cc - 120cc motorcycle and will give you a full licence to ride bikes up to 125cc only. You must have already passed the D.S.A theory test for motorcycles.
Please note that training course lengths are determined by the individual's level of skill and competence. The number of days spent on training is advised by our instructors after an assessment of your riding skills. This assessment can be carried out when the CBT road ride (Module E) is undertaken, or if you can already ride and have already passed your motorcycle theory test you can ring us to arrange a free assessment .
When you have passed the D.A.S. you can ride any machine of any cc and unlimited capacity.
Some examples of how many hours (days) training that will be required to reach a test standard:
Very experienced, 14 - 21 Hours (2 - 3 Days)
Some experience, 28 - 35 Hours (4 - 5 Days)
Complete novice, 42 - 70 Hours (6 - 10 Days)
